Referral Program

Overview

The Referral Program lets your existing customers refer friends to your business. When a referred friend visits your business page through a referral link and creates an account, both the referrer and the friend receive a reward — configured by you.


Enabling the Referral Program

To Enable:

  1. Go to SettingsReferral Program

  2. Toggle Enable Referral Program on

  3. Configure your rewards (see below)

  4. Tap Save

To Disable:

  1. Go to SettingsReferral Program

  2. Toggle Enable Referral Program off

  3. Existing referral codes will stop generating new rewards, but already-issued rewards remain valid


Configuring Referral Rewards

You control what both the referrer and their friend receive.

Reward Types:

You can set rewards as either:

  • Percentage discount (e.g., 20% off)

  • Dollar amount (e.g., $10 off)

  • Free item (e.g., Free dessert)


How It Works

For Your Customers:

  1. Customer logs in and goes to the Referrals tab in their Rewards screen

  2. Taps Get Your Referral Code to generate a unique referral link

  3. Shares the link with friends via text, social media, email, etc.

  4. When the friend opens the link and creates an account, both get rewards

For Your Business:

  1. A referred friend visits your business page via the referral link

  2. The friend creates a customer account (or logs in)

  3. The system automatically generates:

    • A reward promo code for the friend (the referred person)

    • A reward promo code for the referrer (your existing customer)

  4. Both receive email notifications with their reward codes

  5. Rewards appear in the dashboard alongside other promo codes


Duplicate Prevention

The system includes built-in safeguards:

  • Per-friend limit: The same friend can only be referred once per business. If someone tries to refer the same email address again, no additional rewards are generated.

  • Idempotency: If a referral redemption is triggered multiple times (e.g., page refresh), only one set of rewards is created.


Discoverability

Landing Page Teaser

When the referral program is enabled, a "Refer a Friend" teaser card automatically appears on your business landing page. This card:

  • Shows a "REFER & EARN" badge

  • Describes the referral benefit ("Share the love and you both earn rewards")

  • Taps through to the customer's Referrals tab (prompts login if needed)

Customer Dashboard

Customers with accounts can find the referral section under:

  • RewardsReferrals tab


Managing Referral Rewards

Referral rewards appear in your promo codes list like any other reward. You can:

  • View all referral-generated codes in the dashboard

  • Track which codes came from referrals (source is marked as "referral")

  • See who referred whom

  • Expired referral codes follow the same rules as other promo codes

Tips:

  • Make the friend reward attractive — it's the first impression for a new customer

  • Keep your custom share message short and friendly — customers will share it as-is

  • Monitor referral activity in your dashboard to gauge program effectiveness

  • Pair with other features — referred customers may also sign up for Birthday Club, Spin-to-Win, etc.


Troubleshooting

Customer Says They Didn't Get a Referral Reward

Check These:

  1. Did the friend use the referral link? — The friend must open the specific referral URL (not just visit your page directly)

  2. Did the friend create an account? — The friend must log in or create a customer account

  3. Was this friend already referred? — Each friend can only be referred once per business

  4. Is the referral program still enabled? — Check Settings → Referral Program

Referral Code Not Generating

Possible Causes:

  1. Customer not logged in — Customer must be logged in to generate a referral code

  2. Referral program disabled — Check your settings

  3. Network issue — Customer should try again


FAQ

Q: Can a customer refer themselves? A: The system tracks referrals by email address. A customer cannot use their own referral link since they're already registered.

Q: Is there a limit on how many friends a customer can refer? A: There is no limit on the total number of unique friends a customer can refer. However, each individual friend can only be referred once.

Q: What happens if I change the reward values? A: New referral redemptions will use the updated values. Already-issued reward codes keep their original values.

Q: Can I see which rewards came from referrals? A: Yes, referral-generated promo codes are tagged with a "referral" source in your dashboard.
